Shockwave Therapy
When a stubborn tendon or soft-tissue injury just won't heal, shockwave therapy can jump-start your body's natural repair process — without surgery, injections or downtime.
Acoustic waves that wake up healing
Shockwave therapy — also called acoustic wave therapy — delivers high-energy acoustic waves to injured tissue through a handheld applicator. Those pulses stimulate blood flow to the area and trigger the body's natural healing response, helping break down scar tissue and encourage the repair of tendons and soft tissue.
It's non-invasive and drug-free, performed right in our Foxboro office, and there's no downtime — most patients return to their day immediately after a session.
Often helpful for:
- Plantar fasciitis & heel pain
- Achilles tendinitis
- Tennis elbow & golfer's elbow
- Rotator cuff tendinitis
- Jumper's knee (patellar tendinitis)
- Chronic muscle & tendon pain
- Calcific shoulder tendinitis

Shockwave therapy FAQs
Does shockwave therapy hurt?
Most patients feel a tapping or pulsing sensation and some tenderness over the treated area during the session. We adjust the intensity to keep you comfortable, and any soreness afterward is usually mild and short-lived.
How many sessions will I need?
It varies with the condition and how long you've had it. Many treatment plans involve a series of sessions spaced about a week apart. After your exam, we'll recommend a plan tailored to your injury and goals.
Is there any downtime?
No. Shockwave therapy is non-invasive, so there's no downtime — most people return to their normal day right after a session. We'll let you know if any activity should be modified while the tissue heals.
What conditions can it treat?
Shockwave is most often used for chronic tendon and soft-tissue problems such as plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinitis, tennis and golfer's elbow, rotator cuff tendinitis, jumper's knee and calcific shoulder tendinitis. We'll examine you to confirm it's a good fit for your case.
